About
Welcome to the directory of Phil Voulanas, a Melbourne-based professional guitarist, teacher and workshop facilitator of Greek and Indigenous heritage (Arrernte, Djaru, Warlpiri), who also maintains strong professional ties to his hometown of Darwin. With over 15 years in the performance, teaching and facilitator spaces, which includes a Bachelor's Degree in music, he has accrued a wealth of experience that has helped to develop his performance and teaching styles and equipped him with tools to be able to create the Re-tuned With Phil program.
Experience
2025 - Telstra's NATSIAA Event - Featured as a guitarist in the house band for the awards show, backing artists Leah Flanagan and Zeppelin Hamilton of Velvet Trip
2025 - Sydney Mardi Gras Fair Day - Featured as a guitarist in one of the headline slots for electro-pop artist LION
2024 - Hired for a variety of festival and interstate session jobs which saw me performing at Midsumma Carnival (Melbourne),Mardi Gras After Party (Sydney), Army Veteran night (Darwin),including a variety of other band gigs in Melbourne and Brisbane.
2020 - 2025 -Employed as a guitar teacher at Rowville Secondary College for solo, group and ensemble classes.
2018 - Acquired Bachelor of Contemporary Performance Degree
from the Australian Institute of Music.
2017 - 2020 Founding member of progressive metal band that landed support slots on multiple festivals supporting international artists such as Monuments and Skyharbour

Guitar Teaching
I have over 15 years of experience in the teaching industry across prisons, high school (year 7 through to VCE), guitar teaching institutions and for my own business. I completed a bachelor’s degree in music at the Australian Institute of Music in 2018, and have been gaining experience by working with students of all skill levels, ages and cultural backgrounds. I’m passionate about the skill of learning and how to tailor my teaching methods to each student’s learning style. Re-tuned With Phil
The Re-tuned with Phil Workshop is a creative and culturally safe music program, designed to inspire self-expression, healing, and skill development among participants. The course consists of a series of structured workshops that include guitar teaching and collaborative songwriting. Participants will experience personal growth and connection to themselves, while building transferable skills that can be applied to other creative pursuits.
